The Legend of Zelda 30th Anniversary – Celebrate with Us

February 21, 2016, marks the 30-year anniversary of the Japanese release of The Legend of Zelda. We here at Retrovolve are longtime fans of the franchise, and we wanted to find a fitting way to celebrate such a milestone with our staff and readers. So we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite Zelda-related things we’ve published and we thought it’d be fun to share those. You’ll find them below in no particular order. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Is a Beautiful, Profound Masterpiece Josh Wirtanen explains why he thinks The Wind Waker is one of the best video games ever made, looking at the art, story, and emotional impact of the game. Read it here. A Link to the Past and the Mystery of Link’s Missing Pants Mandi Odoerfer explores the instruction manual art of the Zelda series to get to the bottom of a strange mystery: Where are Link’s pants?…

Half-Glass Gaming [Episode 10] : Carlos Menception

This week’s episode is a Zelda-themed egg-stravaganza, as we regale our listeners with tales of Zelda games past and Mandi spits some mad trivia about chickens. A new character, Pillowcase Head, steps out of the Minnesota cold and into your hearts, while the Reverend goes sober for a bit and even skips a wrestling match due to a potential ulcer. Wasserman wouldn’t have allowed those sorts of shenanigans, but thankfully this ain’t his show. Plus, Josh’s Miyamoto sighting, Mandi’s fan base, Julian’s soul, and the Reverend’s bizarre payment options. Really, what kind of minister accepts weed and booze as acceptable forms of currency? Ours does! And, to top it all off, we’ve got a bonus Zelda-themed track by a great band.…

The Internet Erupts in Unbridled Joy as Majora’s Mask Is Officially Announced for the 3DS

It’s always fun to see years of rumor and speculation culminate with what everyone wanted all along. That’s precisely what occurred tonight when Nintendo announced a remastered release of their classic Nintendo 64 title, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, for the Nintendo 3DS. This shouldn’t really come as much of a surprise, given the 2011 release of the game’s precursor, Ocarina of Time, for the very same system. Series producer Eiji Aonuma hasn’t exactly been dismissive of the rumors surrounding a potential remastering of Majora’s Mask, either. As I wrote earlier this week, there are few games more important to me than Ocarina of Time. I felt that the 3DS version of the game was just as good, if not even better than the original.…
