Pumpkin Online Is an MMORPG for the Harvest Moon Demographic
My love for Harvest Moon borders on ridiculous. I once wrote a seven-page letter arguing that the original SNES title should have been nominated for every one of that year’s Nintendo Power Awards, and I was at least partially serious. I play every game in the series with a feverish frenzy, pulling weeds and marrying ladies like my life depends on it.
I also have a love/hate relationship with MMORPGs. They’re antithetical to the way I like to game — alone — but I find myself drawn to them regardless. Interacting with other players fills me with dread, but I can never resist the siren’s call of a well-made MMO.
A while back, I reviewed a game that reminded me of “The Enigma of Amigara Fault,” a story about a mountain covered in human-shaped holes. The game’s target demographic was so narrow it would be easy to believe it had been made for one person, and one person alone.
I think Pumpkin Online may be my human-shaped hole.
The adorable Pumpkin Online is a game designed with Harvest Moon fans in mind. Players are given their own private farm, which they can customize in any way they like. Every NPC is the game is dateable, and each one has their own unique story.
More importantly, Pumpkin Online seems like it’s perfect for people who like to play MMOs by themselves. While you can go adventuring with others, most of the content revolves around the single-player experience. There’s a huge focus on crafting and customization, and no friends are necessary in order to enjoy the game.
If you’re a fan of Harvest Moon, and you love playing multiplayer games alone, I highly recommend checking out Pumpkin Online. It caters to an extremely specific demographic so perfectly it’s hard to believe it’s real.
And even if your tastes are a little less out there, you should give Pumpkin Online a look. It’s ridiculously cute, it has a great concept, and it seems like it’ll be a ton of fun.
