Star Wars: X-Wing and Star Wars: TIE Fighter Getting Swanky Physical PC Releases

Star Wars: X-Wing

When LucasArts got the Star Wars video-game license back from Broderbund Software in 1992, they leaned into their dogfighting experience and created the Star Wars: X-Wing series. See, Lawrence Holland had worked on a few World War II dogfighting games for LucasArts already (including Battlehawks 1942, Their Finest Hour, and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe), so it only made sense to carry that style of gameplay over into the Star Wars universe.

The result was Star Wars: X-Wing in 1993, which kicked off the X-Wing series and was followed by Star Wars: TIE Fighter in 1994.

Now, more than two and a half decades later, the first two games in this series (the two games mentioned in the above paragraph) are getting some pretty incredible physical re-releases courtesy of Limited Run Games.

There are two versions of each game available, the Special Edition Classic Edition, and the Special Edition Premium Edition. That’s perhaps a little confusing, so just know that the “Special Edition” part refers to the version of the game, and the “Classic/Premium Edition” refers to the packaging.

The Classic Editions feature the game in a box designed to look like the classic Star Wars action figure boxes of the past, while the Premium Editions add a whole bunch of extra goodies on top of that.
